There's a growing trend of using the placenta to help the woman's postpartum recovery through ingesting the placenta, known as placentophagy. The placenta is incredibly nutritious and contains many of the vitamins, minerals and hormones that a mother's body needs to recover from the pregnancy and birth. Many people throughout the world have known the power of the placenta as a medicinal supplement; nearly every mammal will consume the placenta after it's born. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has used the placenta for thousands of years as part of the postpartum healing process, by replenishing your system with natural iron & protein and helps reintroduce these essential hormones back into your system.
Traditionally placenta capsules have been used to: -Help balance hormones -Enhance milk supply -Increase energy -Recover more quickly from birth -Shorten postpartum bleeding -Prevent or lessen the "Baby Blues" and Postpartum Depression
For those of us who cannot stomach cooking and eating our own placentas, having your placenta encapsulated is an easier way to receive these benefits!
How it's done: Your placenta should be encapsulated within 48 hours from the birth for maximum benefits. After the birth of your baby you contact me and we will arrange for me to encapsulate your placenta in your kitchen. The placenta is steamed and dehydrated, then ground and put into capsules. I handle your placenta with respect and thoroughly sanitize my materials and work space. Allow two days for the dehydration and encapsulation process. Placentas that have been properly frozen (double-bagged and protected from freezer-burn) can also be encapsulated up to 6 months after the birth.
